James Perry, B Corp Mastermind, Co- Chair and Co-founder of B Lab UK
I believe that business has the power to change the world if it is freed to do so.
James is currently Chief Executive of Panahpur, where he has led the transition of a traditional grant making charitable trust into a sustainable social impact investor. He has been in this role since 2009, having first been Managing Director of Cook, a fast growing premium prepared food manufacturer that became a B Corp in November 2013. He was then Executive Chairman and now remains non-executive Chairman. Since 2012, James has also been Deputy Chairman of the Social Stock Exchange. James chaired the UK Mission Alignment Working Group for the UK Advisory Board of the G8 Social Impact Investment Taskforce. He was instrumental in managing the launch of B Corps in the UK.
James’ super powers: Hope and Faith
Charmian Love, Chief Energy Coordinator, Co-Chair and Co-founder of B Lab UK
We are living in an extraordinary time in history. Capitalism is going through a significant shift – moving away from a traditional focus on just shareholder value to a much broader set of ‘triple bottom line’ returns. The organizations in the B Corp community recognise this shift and are committed to building a better future by using business as a force for good. Hanging out with these businesses gives me huge hope for the world my two sons are going to inherit.
Charmian is co-founder of Volans, a think tank and consultancy driving ‘breakthrough’ innovation in business. Volans became a B Corp in March 2013. Charmian is also a trustee of Shared Impact and the 3D Investment Foundation, and mentors for ventures in the Bethnal Green Ventures social incubator. She worked with James to manage the launch of B Corps in the UK. Read Charmian’s full bio here.
Char’s super powers: Working Mum. Enough said.
Luke Fletcher, Director of B Lab UK, Chair of the B Lab UK Policy Council
I believe that there is a better way to do business and that the B Corp Movement is bang on the money. I think what is happening in the Movement is the start of something big.
Luke is a Partner and Head of Social Finance at the law firm Bates Wells Braithwaite, the first city law firm to become a B Corp in the UK, and the firm that developed the concept of the Community Interest Company. Luke advises charities, social enterprises and other businesses which aim to have a positive impact on society and the environment. He has a particular interest in the relationship between constitutional and legal form, governance and practice in different kinds of businesses. Read Luke's full bio here.
Luke’s super power: Losing people in legal and policy jargon in 10 seconds flat
Louise Harman (née Sanderson), Company Secretary
I joined the B Corp movement because I feel that there needs to be an alternative to the capitalism model and the movement could make a real difference in the UK. And because I like the t-shirt.
Louise is using her experience in advising borrowers and lenders on investment grade, leveraged and emerging market financing transactions - including advice on loan agreements - to support the charity and social enterprise sector. She has recently worked with a variety of not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises on a broad range of legal and commercial issues. See Louise’s full bio here.
Louise’s super powers: Reading the minds of Boards Directors
Current B Lab UK executive team
Katie Hill, Executive Director
I so believe that all businesses potentially can make
a positive impact to equality and wellbeing, whatever their product.
They can and do complement the amazing work of social enterprises who
can’t address all our needs alone!
Katie has previous recent experience as Interim Director to establish Access – the Foundation for Social Investment, a new sister organisation to Big Society Capital. Prior to this, Katie was brought in to a new post of Social Investment Advisor to the City of London Corporation, to develop and implement a social investment strategy and £20m fund for the Corporation. She has worked as an economist in UK local, regional and national government, ran a social enterprise in Bulgaria for four years and was appointed to the EU panel of experts on social business. She is a trustee to two international charities, and a board member of a founding B Corp
Katie’s super powers: parking in very tight spots (yes, really); getting incredibly lost in orienteering yet going back for more, and writing backwards.
Kate Sandle, Community Manager
I have always believed businesses have a significant
role to play in shaping our future and the future of our planet. Working
for B Lab was the perfect opportunity to help businesses build and shift
the paradigm in a positive way.
Kate joined B Lab UK in October 2015. She works with the existing community to strengthen and build the B Corp movement and plan B Corp events. Previously she worked for The Portland Trust, an ‘action tank’ co-founded by Sir Ronald Cohen, promoting peace and stability in Israel and Palestine through economic development. Before that Kate spent four years organising international conferences for large multinationals, after graduating from Leeds University where she read International Relations and studied in Canada.
Kate’s super powers: turning delicious ingredients into disgusting looking smoothies, skating through London dressed as Santa.
Scott Drummond, Business Development and Communications
To address the world’s most pressing problems we need the best and the brightest to work on creating more value, for more people, in more sustainable ways, and that includes the world of business.
Previously Scott worked in a variety of senior communications roles across start-ups, large corporations and global advertising agencies, specialising in digital and social media marketing. Most recently he was Head of Social Media for Social@Ogilvy in Jakarta, Indonesia, and he has also lived and worked in Germany and Australia.
Scott’s super powers: tinkering with circuit boards and craft projects with his son, running in the rain, playing ukulele.
Aimie Cole, Raiser of Funds, presentation guru
I joined the B Corp Movement to make the world a better place. I was so inspired by all the amazing B Corps that I learnt about last year on the G8 Impact Investment Taskforce that when I found out B Corp was coming to the UK I was really keen to try and help the movement grow.
Aimie has been working with B Lab UK since February 2015. Her work focuses on raising funds to support the growth of the B Corps across the UK. She has also had a hand in producing a variety of media and is building awareness about B Corps in Dorset and the South West. Alongside this Aimie is involved in other projects in the profit-with-purpose and social investment sector. With a background in government and private sector development in the Middle East, Aimie is committed to working with people and organisations driven by a social purpose.
Aimie’s super powers: Starting (but not often finishing) creative craft projects. This week it’s the ‘Bob the Man on the Moon’ costume for my son. Bring on the papier mache.
Charlotte Sewell, Impact and strategy champ
I’m a big believer in the effect that business can have on changing the way people, communities, and the environment are treated. I think the B Impact Assessment is a brilliant tool and that the B Corp movement has the potential to change the way we see and do business.
Charlotte’s super powers: Outdoor swimming (when I’m brave enough)
B Lab UK supporters and advisors
We continue to receive fantastic support from previous team members, advisors, mentors, and general advocates.
Richard Johnson, Photoshop Wrestler and Inbox Clogger
I joined the B Corp Movement because every certification feels like a step towards a new normal, where capitalism works for people and planet.
Rich’s super powers: Making one of the go to the end of the sentence words
Amanda Feldman, Advising us on building standards, partnerships and awareness
I fear missing out on a game-changing movement.
Amanda’s super powers: Navigating local food markets
John Elkington, B Corp Enthusiast
I joined the B Corp Movement because it seemed to be an access ramp to the future.
John’s super powers: Not getting jet-lag, through probably a degree of mind over matter.
David Coombs, Advisor
I am passionate about harnessing the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.

David’s super powers: possesses magical ability to make chocolate disappear.
B Lab UK Standards Council
The UK Standards Advisory Council's key objective is to review the B Impact Assessment methodology in terms of its content, weighting and scoring presentation as a way of providing input to the Global Standards Advisory Council, and to ensure that the UK perspective becomes fully incorporated into the global B Impact Assessment. The Standards Council is chaired by Clara Barby (Bridges Ventures).
B Lab UK Policy Council
The Policy Council has been tasked to develop the ‘legal requirement’ for a company or other business form wishing to become a B Corp in the UK. It is the body that considers the full legal, regulatory and policy questions, which are likely to face the B Corp movement in the UK over time. The Policy Council is chaired by Luke Fletcher (Bates Wells Braithwaite) and currently comprises Bill Clark (B Lab), Lucy Fergusson (Linklaters), Tom Fox (UnLtd), Simon Rowell (Big Society Capital) and Nick Temple SEUK).
