What has changed?

Raising the bar with new performance requirements

The new B Lab standards are moving away from individual point scoring to minimum requirements across seven Impact Topics. This provides companies with the clarity to galvanise the most impactful business actions.

A model built for trust

Certifications are now verified by a third-party assurance provider, strengthening the rigour and credibility of the B Corp movement.

V2 was also designed to align with other certification schemes and evolving regulations, including the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (ECGT), allowing companies to stay ahead of changing expectations and reduce reputational risk, while focusing their time on driving meaningful impact.

Identify your timeline

We know that engaging with a new set of standards is a significant change. We are here to support you as you navigate this transition and plan your next steps.

First time certifying: From 11 March 2026, all companies will begin their certification under the new B Lab standards (V2).

For existing B Corps:  All recertifications are now on V2.

  • Urgent for ECGT: If you are impacted by Empower Consumers for The Green Transition Directive (ECGT)—a new EU law requiring third-party verification—we strongly recommend submitting your Self-Assessment on B Impact for audit as soon as possible, and before 15 July 2026 to allow sufficient time for recertification before the legislation comes into effect.

Set up your assessment for success

Before diving into your Self-Assessment, please take these practical actions on your B Impact account.

  1. Identify legislative impact: If your company engages in business-to-consumer (B2C) communications in the EU, you may be impacted by Empower Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (ECGT), regardless of your location. Please identify whether your business is due to be impacted, or not, in your account via Manage Account → Company → Regulatory Information.

  2. Complete the updated prerequisites: Complete the Assessment Setup, Foundational Requirements, and Risk Profile. This confirms your eligibility for certification and ensures that the requirements you see later in the assessment are tailored specifically to your company’s context (structure, size and sector).

  3. Finalise for audit: Once you’ve completed the Self-Assessment and uploaded your evidence, head to the ‘Submission’ page to finalise your application and prepare for audit.
