How to apply to job roles at B Lab UK

Your application journey

We believe applying for a new role should feel empowering. That’s why we have created an inclusive, transparent, and fair application journey that allows candidates to showcase who they are and what they bring. This page will guide you through what to expect during your journey.

Come as you are

We want to reassure you that you don’t need to meet 100% of the criteria to apply. We value the diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences that each candidate brings. If you meet some of the key criteria for our roles, we strongly encourage you to apply!

A few things before you apply

We want to make sure that B Lab UK is the right fit for you, so here are some important things to consider before applying:

  • You must be able to demonstrate your eligibility to work in the UK, unfortunately we are not able to provide visa sponsorship.

  • You must also be happy to work a hybrid arrangement 1-2 days per week in our London Spitalfields office.

You can find out more about who we are, our values and what it’s like to work for B Lab UK before you apply.

Submitting your application

We can’t wait to receive your application! To ensure our recruitment processes are inclusive and fair, we run an anonymous hiring process via the platform Be Applied. All applications should be received through this system as and when opportunities arise.

To apply, simply answer some key application questions and upload your CV. We love it when you use examples in your responses, to really showcase your skills relevant to the role. So remember to include these and use the STARR technique to tell us everything the word limit will let you!

Thinking of using AI?

We recognise the value of AI tools like ChatGPT, and the temptation to use it to complete your application. That said, we prefer answers to be your own as this allows us to accurately assess your ability to meet the role's requirements.

Our recruitment platform, Be Applied, enables us to identify the use of AI in candidates’ responses, and we do take this into consideration when scoring.

The applicant journey

We’re excited to see you shine throughout your application journey, which is designed to showcase your skills and expertise relevant to the role. In addition, we’ll be looking at how you align with the values and behaviours important for both the role and B Lab UK. The stages may vary by role and if so, you’ll be given more information throughout.

Step 1: Application review

Once you submit your application, your responses to the key application questions are independently scored by a staff panel, who use predefined score guides. At this stage, your name and personal information are not visible to the reviewing team to prevent bias. Sometimes, we might ask you to complete additional tasks as part of your application, such as time limited multiple choice questions.

In certain cases, particularly when there's a high volume of qualified applicants, we may conduct an anonymized and structured CV review based on specific criteria to help us refine our shortlist.

Step 2: 1st stage interview (usually remote)

If you're selected to move forward, we'll invite you to a first-stage interview. This will be a structured panel interview, lasting around 45-60 minutes, where we'll focus on the key requirements of the role. You’ll receive the interview questions 24 hours in advance to help you prepare.

To ensure fairness, the interview panel typically won’t have access to your CV or any personal details until the interview itself.

Step 3: 2nd stage interview (in person)

The second stage is a further 45-60 minute structured panel interview, where we’ll dive further into the key requirements of the role. Once again, we’ll share the interview questions with you 24 hours ahead of time, so you can prepare. This stage is usually more conversational, and it’s also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have!

In some cases, you may be asked to complete a task before either the 1st stage or 2nd stage interview, such as a written assignment or a presentation to deliver during the interview. We’ll provide all the details with your interview invite. On occasion, we might ask you to complete a task during the interview itself instead.

Step 4: Job offer

If you're the successful candidate, we’ll reach out to you by phone with more details, followed by a formal offer in writing. We’ll also ask for two work references, ideally including one from your previous line manager, and we’ll verify your right to work before you start the role.

We’re committed to offering constructive feedback to everyone who attends an interview, as we hope it will help you in your future job search.

To keep our recruitment process consistent and fair, we limit our conversations with candidates to the steps outlined above. However, we always welcome your feedback at any stage – feel free to email us at hiring@bcorporation.uk, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

We’re committed to continually learning and improving, so we can provide the best possible candidate experience.
