STARR technique

It stands for Situation, Task, Action, Results and Reflection and it means:

1. Situation

Briefly set up the situation by describing the context of your example. For example: "In my previous role, Instagram engagement had plateaued, and follower growth had stalled. Leadership wanted to increase brand visibility and community interaction."

2. Task

Explain the task you had to complete or the problem you had to solve. For example: “I was tasked with creating and launching a campaign to boost engagement, increase followers, and align content with our brand values — all within a limited budget and tight deadline.”

3. Action

Describe the actions you took to complete the task or solve the problem, including what you did, and how and why you did it. For example: "I launched a 4-week 'Behind the Brand' campaign featuring team takeovers, polls, reels, and UGC. Partnered with two micro-influencers for added reach."

4. Results

What was the outcome, and how did your actions impact you, the team, and the organisation? For example: "Engagement rose by 67%, 1.2k new followers gained, and our most-viewed reel was produced during this campaign."

5. Reflection

What did you learn from the experience, and did it change anything about how you deal with similar situations now? What would you do differently next time? For example: "I learned the value of authentic content and creative strategy over budget — especially when targeting Gen Z audiences."
