Introducing B Corp Consultants

Meet the next evolution of B Leaders: B Corp Consultants. Discover our new offering for businesses seeking support on their impact journey, in the first of a series showcasing the work of B Corp Consultants. B Lab UK is really excited to announce the launch of B Corp Consultants, our latest offering to support businesses on their B Corp journey.

If you’re an organisation engaging with the B Lab Standards for the first time or looking to make the most of being part of this brilliant community, B Corp Consultants are here to help. As a network of trained, independent sustainability professionals, B Corp Consultants bring expertise across industries and regions, supporting businesses to measure, manage and improve their impact. You can think of them like personal trainers: they offer tailored support that can enable you to understand and achieve your goals better.

Since joining B Lab UK back in 2021, my team and I have developed products, including training, to serve the needs of our business community. Stewarding our consultant network has been a significant part of that work, and today’s launch marks an important milestone. It’s the culmination of years of listening, learning and working alongside consultants to shape how we can better support them—and, in turn, the businesses they work with.

I’ve seen first-hand the important role consultants play in growing the B Corp movement: from spreading awareness of B Corp Certification and building networks across the UK, to sharing ideas and insights that strengthen our mission. As the movement continues to evolve, their expertise and reach will be increasingly important. By equipping more businesses with the knowledge, support and confidence to take action, B Corp Consultants can help us move closer to B Lab UK’s 10-year goal: an economy where every business acts as a force for good by default.

Supporting businesses to create impact

Last year, B Lab launched new standards that have raised the bar for B Corp Certification. Businesses must now meet minimum requirements across key social and environmental areas, commit to continuous improvement and undergo independent third-party verification.

Becoming a B Corp is no easy feat, and rightly so. The rigour of the certification process is what demonstrates a genuine commitment to positive impact and sets the B Corp community apart.

For businesses navigating this new model, trusted, credible support can make all the difference. B Corp Consultants respond to that need directly. Each consultant has completed training on B Lab’s standards, the certification process and new assurance model, while undergoing an application process to demonstrate their practical experience working with businesses on the B Corp journey.

From there, you can explore their profiles, learn more about their experience and, importantly, verify that they have been trained by B Lab UK using their certificate and ID number.

More ways to get support

However, we recognise that not every business will have the resources to invest in consultancy support.

If you want to become a B Corp, it is not essential to work with a B Corp Consultant. This is just one option for businesses that want additional, tailored expertise, but it sits within a much broader spectrum of support available from B Lab UK.

To stretch the gym analogy a little further, we don’t all need a personal trainer to get fitter. While expert support can be valuable, there are plenty of free and low-cost ways to get started, from guides and videos to classes and online resources.

We want the same to be true at B Lab UK. Whether you need a little guidance or more hands-on support, we offer a range of resources to help businesses navigate their B Corp journey. These include our free online training courses, comprehensive website and Knowledge Base, as well as webinars, events and email support. Check out the links at the bottom of this blog to explore the support available.

Moving from B Leaders to B Corp Consultants

For those familiar with B Lab UK’s history, consultancy support is nothing new.

For many years, B Leaders (the previous version of B Corp Consultants) have played an instrumental role in enabling the UK B Corp movement to become the biggest and fastest-growing in the world (with over 3,000 B Corps!).

Today, with the introduction of B Corp Consultants, we’re retiring the B Leaders brand.

We’re doing this to be clear and upfront about what B Corp Consultants offer and to align with other B Labs across the world. Moving forward, B Corp Consultants will be a globally recognised part of the B Corp movement, and a name you’ll see more of as you engage with our work.

Many B Leaders have since transitioned to become B Corp Consultants and will continue to offer the same level and quality of support for businesses. Others are taking this opportunity to step away from the role. We’re really grateful to everyone who has contributed to the B Leaders community.

Interested in becoming a B Corp Consultant?

There will be new opportunities for experienced sustainability consultants to train and become B Corp Consultants. We are opening the training programme for applications in 2027 and will share updates soon.
